“And the warrior’s way was not to run from failure, but to own up to it and do better.”
Everyone on social media (Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook..etc) told me to pick up a Brandon Sanderson book. So I finally started Skyward and unfortunately for me, I got a migraine that day. So I spent all day in bed with that stupid migraine and devoured Skyward anyway. SO WORTH IT! Finished it that day and even days later after reading it, I cannot stop thinking about it. I am impatiently counting down the days to Starsight just so I can reread Skyward again. I guess you can call me obsessed.
All Spensa wants is to be a pilot. To fly, fight for her people, and be praised for her heroics as all pilots. But following in her father’s footsteps is proving to be harder than she thought.
Years before, her father abandoned his team during a battle and was killed, now branded the daughter of a coward, life for Spensa is difficult. Now Spensa must fight to attend flight school and fight for her dream. But when secrets are exposed, everything changes.
Okay, I probably butchered the crap about of the summary, but you get the gist of it. It’s a fun sci-fi YA book that blew me out of the water. It has been such a long time since I have picked up a book and fell in love like this. It was almost an instant kind of love where I knew it was going to be 5 stars after a few pages. Thank the book gods for blessing me with such a brilliant read.
There is absolutely no way I can discuss the plot without spoiling it. Just read it. But what I will say is the best part about Skyward are the characters. Sanderson takes the gold for his characters in this book. If he continues to write characters like Spensa and M-Bot than I will have a hard time not loving all his books. Spensa is determined, smart, and strong, the exact kind of MC every good story needs. M-Bot was kind, innocent, and sarcastic. He can compliment my shoes anytime! But seriously these two were my favorite and I cannot wait to see more of them.
And as I am writing this review, I just realized that this is a 4 book series! And that the 4th book might not be released until 2022. I don’t know if I should cry or laugh at my pain. But I am sure the wait will be worth it. I will just have to read more of Sanderson’s books and possibly reread Skyward a bunch. You can definitely consider me a Sanderson fan now. If Brandon Sanderson writes YA books like this than I can only imagine how good his adult stuff is going to be. For everyone who told me to read his books, I thank you. Now off to read more of his books and start Mistborn. Wish me luck!
