Monthly Wrap Up | May 2019

Monthly Wrap Up | May 2019

My total reads for this month was 11! For being in a bit of a slump (thanks Darkdawn and GoT) and spending most of my month watching Lucifer, I think I did pretty good! I definitely had two new loves this month. Darkdawn and Skyward were my favorite reads of the month. Nothing can top those two books. If you haven’t picked up the Nevernight series, I encourage you to do so. And please pick up Skyward. IT WAS THAT GOOD! I hope my June wrap up is just as epic as this one.

The Red Scrolls of Magic  By Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu

A Magnus and Alec spin-off that was pretty darn cute. I can’t wait for more of the beloved Malec. My only complaint was just that it took place in the past. I wasn’t a fan of Alec around this time period. So it would be nice to see them in their current life. But its Shadowhunters so its easily still a good book for me.

The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

This book was WILD. I had to read certain chapters several times because my brain just couldn’t grasp what was happening. I look forward to more books by these authors. I imagine they will be just as intense as this one.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (reread)

No Stars

I couldn’t give this a star rating. It would be low because it’s so bad but I also still love it? So how could I rate this? But boy this is just as cringey as I remember but I couldn’t put it down. My love for Edward is still intense even if he is this creepy vampire. No regrets guys.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

Easily one of my favorite adult fiction books I have ever read. I devoured this book in a matter of days. It was beautiful and the fact that it’s being made into a movie has made me so happy! Highly recommend this one, you guys.

Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff

Caraval by Stephanie Garber (reread)

I think I liked this more the first time I read it. I dropped my rating from a 4 to a 3. The characters were so frustrating in this book. I plan to reread Legendary soon so I can finally start Finale. Hope Legendary is as good as I remember.

Skyward by Brandon Sanderson (Check out my review here.)

One of my favorite reads of 2019. I don’t think many books will be able to top this one.

The Beholder by Anna Bright

Don’t even get me started on this book. I found it incredibly boring. This book is supposed to be a retelling of The Odyssey and Cinderella but its not? It almost has nothing in common with either of them except a ship and a stepmother. Definitely not for me.

Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare, Maureen Johnson, Sarah Rees Brennan, Robin Wasserman, Kelly Link

A beautiful collection of short stories that revolve around my favorite musician Jem Carstairs. Definitely worth the read as every single story made me cry. Especially the last one.

The Waking Forest by Alyssa Wees

Such a gorgeous cover! I didn’t love this book, I enjoyed it a good amount but it again just wasn’t for me.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas (reread)

How can I not still love this book. Worth the reread.

Next up for me is finishing up my current reads (Kingsbane and Dev1at3) and then who knows. I’ve downloaded a couple of audiobooks to try out but my TBR for June is pretty open. Planning out my reads isn’t for me. But I do have some buddy reads happening. So at least 3 books are actually planned. But you know still MOOD READER FOR LIFE. So we shall see where the wind takes me next month.

  1. I didn’t realize there was a film version of “Crawdads” in the works and I’m usually way out in front of these things.
I’ll have to go IMDB that now, thanks!
